What is the Climate in Bozeman?
Bozeman’s climate is considered “Moderate” for the Northwestern Rocky Mountains. There are definitely 4 seasons here and each is beautiful. Our particular location is actually considered a margin zone between the wetter coastal climes and the more stable canadian cool air masses to the north. The result is a dynamic range from clear summer days with occasional fantastic mountain lightning storms in the late summer.
We do usually experience snow from late October until March or early April. By no means even close to the amount of snow the midwest receives, however enough to supply our ski hills with plenty of fun. Temperatures hover in the mid to low 20’s for most of the winter and can dip below zero or get into the 50’s on occasion.
Springtime is quite special here when for a magical 4-6 weeks, the valleys are a lush flowered green while mountains are still wearing there snowy crowns.
Summers are delightful, rarely reaching above the mid 90’s and rarely below 65, so we have great camping, hiking and fishing weather from April well into late September.
Tell me about the schools
Our children left elite private schools after our move to Bozeman and enrolled in the excellent public school system here where they not only thrived, but went on to excellent colleges.
Bozeman’s schools are split up between 1 High School, 2 middle schools and 5 elementary schools. All are located within the city limits. There are also a few private schools in our valley and a few smaller schools in the rural areas outside of the greater Bozeman area. To learn more about the schools in Bozeman visit our
Interactive Map and click “Schools”.
How far away are the National Parks and recreation opportunities?
Bozeman is only 91 scenic miles from Yellowstone National Park, through the Gallatin Canyon and the western gate, or 79 through the Paradise Valley into the northern gate. Glacier National Park is in the Northern Part of our state but is mere 5 -6 hours of driving through beautiful Mountain landscapes and the gorgeous Flathead lake area.
Bridger Bowl and Bohart Ski areas are a 30 minute drive up Bridger Canyon from Downtown Bozeman and Big Sky is 60 miles down the Gallatin Canyon. Bozeman itself has numerous cross country skiing trails, as well as miles of hiking adventures just outside of the city limits.
River rafting is 30 minutes away to the Gallatin river’s guided rafting companies, and the Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin rivers are in some cases right out the back door.
Here is a great resource for more
recreational opportunities in the area.
